| Panthers Score Late, Stun Cyclones, 5-3 | The rain came, as predicted, but the Charleston Panthers and Coney Island Cyclones were able to complete their ballgame.
The Charleston Panthers topped the Coney Island Cyclones, 5-3, with first baseman Omar Veliz playing a big role. Veliz was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Panthers in the win. The Panthers have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 4th win in 12 games.
Veliz had a game-changing double in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-1 curveball from Bob Downard, he banged a run-scoring double to center, giving the Panthers a 2-1 lead. It was the 3rd double of the year for Veliz.
Veliz told the Charleston Chronicle: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
