| Ortega has 3 hit day as Black Squirrels Squeeze Past Westside | Getting a good performance from third baseman Israel Ortega, the Tree City Black Squirrels defeated the Westside Road Warriors, 8-7. Ortega was 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Black Squirrels. Tree City reliever Bruce Cunningham picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Scott Horton shouldered the loss. Tree City, now 3-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
The Black Squirrels got a big at-bat from designated hitter Wade Newman. For the game, Newman went 1 for 3 with 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the eighth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 3rd hit of the season gave Tree City a 8-7 lead.
