| Emeralds Topple Hornets with Late Rally | Despite a fine performance by designated hitter Ryoji Nakai, the Bethesda Hornets suffered a 4-3 loss to the Eugene Emeralds. Nakai was 1 for 2 with a home run and 3 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winner was Josh Jackson in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Allen Westmoreland took the loss. The win moves Eugene to a record of 2-2.
The Emeralds were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when pinch hitter Hugo Mendoza turned a full count fastball from Allen Westmoreland into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent a roar through the crowd and gave Eugene a thrilling 4-3 win.
"This place was rocking at the end," Mendoza said.
