| Jedi Knights Get Close Win Over Mustangs | San Angelo got a terrific performance from pitcher Jorge Martinez, but it wasn't enough to beat the New Orleans Jedi Knights. New Orleans won the The Republic contest, 2-1. Martinez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball. New Orleans, now 2-1, has gotten their season off to a good start.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when New Orleans shortstop Dan Crawford, facing Casey Violet, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Jedi Knights the 2-1 win.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Crawford said in reaction to the win.
