Tight Tilt Goes to Black Squirrels, 4-3

The 2038 season began for the Eugene Emeralds with a loss to the Tree City Black Squirrels at Prefontaine Park. The final score was 4-3. Tree City pitcher Jesus Yanez earned top player honors. Tree City reliever Kevin Lewis was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Jesse Lay.

Had Carlos Sosa not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Sosa hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Black Squirrels.

After the game, Tree City manager Doug Bergeron applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
