| Cornhuskers Deal Bulldogs Painful Loss | DeKalb beat Spokane at The Corn Crib, escaping with a 6-5 win. The win in large part was due to catcher John Bloom, who earned player of the game honors. He was 3 for 6 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. DeKalb reliever Bill Acheson was the winner. His record is now 1-1. Kyle Lavole took the loss. The winning streak has now reached 4 games for the Cornhuskers.
The Cornhuskers got a big at-bat from shortstop Bruce Fleet. For the game, Fleet was 1-6 with a walk. In the bottom of the 12th, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 65th hit of the season gave DeKalb a 6-5 lead.
"The beers will taste better tonight after this win," said the ever-candid Bloom.
