| Black Bears Come Up Short at Sandy Springs | Sandy Springs catcher Yasushi Hagiwara was a significant contributor in his team's 6-5 triumph over the Fraser Valley Black Bears. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for Sandy Springs. Mitsuo Kobayashi got credit for the win, improving to 5-3. He allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in 5.1 innings. The Spartans got a big at-bat from designated hitter Danny Redding. For the game, Redding went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 10th hit of the season gave Sandy Springs a 5-4 lead.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Hagiwara, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
