Red Bulls Need Extra Frames to Get Past Hackers

Silicon Valley got a terrific performance from designated hitter Mario Nateras, but it wasn't enough to beat the Riverside Red Bulls. Riverside won the San Jose Municipal Stadium contest, 4-3. Nateras was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Riverside reliever Eddie Cory picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Butch Eviston shouldered the loss. Riverside goes to 69-57. The win puts them 3½ games up in their division.

The Red Bulls got a big at-bat from first baseman Kiyotaka Sugimoto. For the game, Sugimoto went 1 for 4 with a walk and was hit by a pitch. In the top of the 11th, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 139th hit of the season gave Riverside a 4-3 lead.

"I still think this team has room for improvement," Sugimoto told the Riverside Citizen.
