Beetlecats Get Close Win Over Vesuvius

The Buzzard's Bay Beetlecats defeated the Cape Verde Vesuvius, 6-5, at Bloomfield Road today. Leading the charge for Buzzard's Bay was designated hitter Jochen Derksen. He was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI. Mike Anderson got credit for the win, improving to 5-2. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. Buzzard's Bay is now riding a 3-game win streak.

Derksen had a game-changing single in the bottom of the ninth. On a 0-1 curveball from Luis Herrera, he banged a run-scoring single to left, giving the Beetlecats a 6-5 lead. It was the 29th hit of the year for Derksen.
