Zurita Excels, But Cornhuskers Win

DeKalb and Wichita duked it out at Howling Park and the Cornhuskers came out victorious.

DeKalb withstood an impressive performance by Wichita designated hitter Ossie Zurita to defeat the Wolverines, 7-4, at Howling Park. Zurita hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. DeKalb reliever David Vince picked up the win, upping his record to 5-3. Victor Benavirez was saddled with the loss. Kirk Winman converted his 7th save in 7 tries.

The Cornhuskers got a big at-bat from second baseman Miguel Garza. For the game, Garza went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the ninth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave DeKalb a 7-4 lead.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Garza.

The Cornhuskers bumped their record to 56-53 with this latest triumph.
