| Wolverines Turn Back Fraser Valley, 3-1 | The Wichita Wolverines grabbed a 3-1 win over the Fraser Valley Black Bears at The Stetson Bowl. Wichita left fielder Bill Hopgood was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once to earn player of the game honors. Manny Anchondo got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4 innings. Joel Stapleton was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 31 of 36 save opportunities.
Hopgood had a key at-bat for Wichita early in the game. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 9th home run of the season and gave Wichita an early 2-0 lead.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Hopgood said.
The Wolverines bumped their record to 60-49 with this latest triumph.
