| Spartans Win at DeKalb, 3-1 | Derrick Brown never let the Cornhuskers get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his cutter, to pitch the Spartans to a 3-1 win. Brown, now 1-0, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing no earned runs. Pat Glaze notched his 9th save in 10 chances.
The Spartans got a big at-bat from third baseman Chaz Farris. For the game, Farris went 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Sandy Springs a 1-0 lead.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Sandy Springs skipper José Parra.
Sandy Springs bumps their record to 34-51 with the win.
