| Kaneko Goes Wild, But Hackers Win | Silicon Valley withstood an impressive performance by Sandy Springs first baseman Toshifumi Kaneko to defeat the Spartans, 8-6, at The Coliseum. Kaneko was 2-2 with 2 home runs and 3 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. This loss makes it 7 in a row for Sandy Springs.
Had Keith Hawley not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Hawley hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Hackers.
In postgame comments to the Silicon Valley Today, Hawley said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
