| Hawks Rally For Late Win Over Robins | The Bristol Robins got a superb performance from pitcher Francisco Varela, but the Boise Hawks still won the game, 6-3. Varela was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Boise reliever Jose Ramirez got the win, raising his record to 1-1. Ken Ducklow was tagged with the loss. The save was Brad Harr's, his 5th.
Had Curt Mayle not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Mayle hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Hawks.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Hawks manager Tom Becker. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Bristol has now lost 4 consecutive games.
