The Rock River Rats got a magnificent performance from pitcher Pat Beckett, who muffled the Carson City offense en route to a tight 2-1 Rats win at Cowboys Stadium. In 7.1 innings, Beckett surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed 1 run.
Luis Alvarez helped out the Rock River cause in the top of the fifth inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the third baseman drove in one run.
Afterward, Rats manager Will Hunt was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
