| Cornhuskers Win at Long Island, 3-2 | The Long Island Ducks got a sterling performance from pitcher Jerry Hughes, but the Cornhuskers still prevailed, 3-2. Hughes was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball. Andrew Thompson was the winner. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Ray Burns was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 19 of 20 save opportunities.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when second baseman Rob McCleary got hit by a pitch. The Cornhuskers went on to win.
"Credit where credit is due," said McCleary, "this was a team win."
DeKalb, at 28-35, sits in 5th place in the Roy Halladay League Bruce Bochy Division.
