| Black Bears Pull Off Thrilling Win in Extras | Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at The Rat Hole.
The Fraser Valley Black Bears picked up a win at The Rat Hole, knocking off the Rock River Rats, 4-1. Starting pitcher Angel Ponce, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Fraser Valley reliever Wei-sng Mak picked up the win to move to 4-3. Edwin Hodges suffered the loss. Brian Gunter, credited with the save, is now 1 for 2 in save opportunities.
The Black Bears got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Jim Sims. For the game, Sims was 1-1 with a double. In the top of the 12th, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 7th double of the season gave Fraser Valley a 2-1 lead.
"I like what I saw today," said Fraser Valley manager Tom Klein, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
The Rats, now 32-29, have lost 5 in a row.
