The Fraser Valley Black Bears beat the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 5-4, at The Corn Crib. The Black Bears got a fine performance from catcher Stephen Patty, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Wei-sng Mak finished the game for Fraser Valley and earned his 10th save.
The Black Bears got a big at-bat from second baseman Giovanni Patrick. For the game, Patrick was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the seventh, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 35th hit of the season gave Fraser Valley a 5-4 lead.
"I'm not out there for personal accomplishments," Patrick told a Fraser Valley Citizen reporter after the game. "I'm out there to help the team win, and that's what we did today."
The Black Bears bumped their record to 31-21 with this latest triumph.
