Hornets Clip Rockhounds in Tight Contest

The Hornets grabbed a win, 5-1, at Field of Dreams, overcoming a fine effort from Midland pitcher John Denny. Denny went 8 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The winner was Roger Rogers in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Pete Tupper took the loss. The Rockhounds, now 13-23, have lost 15 straight.

Takahiro Kato made it 2-1 in favor of Eureka when he delivered a run-scoring single. It came with no one out in the top of the ninth. The red-hot Hornets went on to win.

"It was a tough night at the plate," said Midland manager Anastasio Ojeda.
