| Cornhuskers Prevail, 7-5, Over Boise | The DeKalb Cornhuskers defeated the Boise Hawks, 7-5, at The Corn Crib. DeKalb catcher Hiyutaro Ushijima was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. DeKalb reliever George Fawns picked up the win to move to 2-1. Jose Perez suffered the loss. DeKalb is now 19-28.
The Cornhuskers beat the Hawks with some clutch hitting. The single by Ryosaku Nishimura in the bottom of the fifth is a good example. With two down, Nishimura gave his team the lead, 5-4, when he came through with the big hit.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Ushijima told the DeKalb Herald. "It's as simple as that."
