| Tanaka Slugs Hellcats to 8-3 Win | With right fielder Kuniaki Tanaka leading the charge, the Jacksonville Hellcats defeated the Boise Hawks, 8-3, at Basque Block Field. Tanaka, who leads the CLL in extra base hits with 17, was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 5. Mike Marquez, credited with the win, is now 4-2. He allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 5.2 innings. The 5th-place Hellcats improved to 13-21.
Tanaka contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Jacksonville in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-1, Tanaka took a fastball from Jose Robles and stroked the home run to left. His 4th home run of the season allowed the Hellcats to leap in front, 4-3.
Tanaka expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
