| Vesuvius Prevail, 3-2, Over Boise | The Cape Verde Vesuvius faced a tough opponent in Boise pitcher Jan Woodbury, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Basque Block Field by a final score of 3-2. Woodbury went 8 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Cape Verde reliever Hitoshi Miyahira picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Ray Toye was collared with the loss. Francisco Morales finished the game for Cape Verde and earned his 7th save.
The Vesuvius got a big at-bat from left fielder Gary Corbett. For the game, Corbett went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the ninth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season gave Cape Verde a 3-2 lead.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Corbett told the Cape Verde Times.
The Hawks, now 6-17, continue their poor start.
