| Big Day with Bat: Hardwick 5-for-6 | Sandy Springs third baseman John Hardwick went down swinging at Long Island Stadium today, knocking out 5 hits even as his Spartans fell, 13-12.
"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Hardwick said after his 5-for-6 performance against the Long Island Ducks. "No offense meant to Long Island, but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."
After the game, his manager elaborated on the third baseman's improvements, saying Hardwick spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.
"That's what I'm trying to do," Hardwick agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
John Hardwick flied out in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
