| Fireballs Stymie Detroit, Take 2-0 Win | In a low-scoring tilt between the Joplin Fireballs and the Detroit Death Stars, David Myers was the difference-maker. The Joplin left-hander earned player of the game honors in the 2-0 win. Myers, the winner, moves to 5-3. He threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 1 walk. Jason Graves, credited with the save, is now 27 for 29 in save opportunities.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the sixth, with the game tied, Aaron Myron was at the plate when Joplin scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Fireballs to go in front, 1-0.
"We didn't score," said losing manager Edgardo Gonzáles. "That was the problem."
Joplin is now riding a 3-game win streak.
