| Sparling Whips Calgary | The Billings Mustangs shut out the Calgary Kodiaks 5-0 today behind the strong pitching of Mark Sparling. Sparling surrendered only 6 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 4.
Following the last out, Sparling appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Calgary manager José Díaz, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Sparling's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Kodiaks skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Mustangs press conference, Sparling confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Sparling said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Billings manager Jorge Magana added.
This season Sparling has fanned 139 in 168.1 innings and collected a 11-9 record with a 4.97 ERA. |
