Caterpillars Edge Past Bombers, 9-8

The Peoria Caterpillars grabbed a 9-8 win over the Bronx Bombers at Excavatar Park. Peoria third baseman Don Newbold was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 to earn player of the game honors. Reliever Kirk Winman picked up the win. His record improves to 3-2. Jeremy Carr took the loss. At 64-92, Peoria is in last place in the TMLAAA Cito Gaston League.

The Caterpillars got a big at-bat from shortstop Roberto Rodríguez. For the game, Rodríguez went 1 for 1. In the bottom of the tenth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 30th hit of the season gave Peoria a 9-8 lead.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Rodríguez. "And not try to do too much."
