Racers Bang Out 8-3 Win Versus Reno

Reno second baseman Dusty Hicks had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Hicks went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, even as Bowling Green beat the Rockets, 8-3. Hicks was named the player of the game despite the loss. Reliever Bill Almy picked up the win. His record improves to 4-2. José Toro took the loss. At 71-84, Bowling Green is in 4th place in the RCL AAA Tony La Russa Division.

Had Terry Merritt not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Merritt hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Racers.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Merritt. "And not try to do too much."
