Fireballs Raise Rally Flag, Beat Candiac, 5-4

Candiac got a terrific game from shortstop Kevin McVey. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Joplin, 5-4. McVey was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk. Joplin reliever David Myers picked up the win to move to 4-2. Hulusi Mumcu suffered the loss. Nick Hasselbring, credited with the save, is now 2 for 5 in save opportunities.

Manuel Infante swatted a run-scoring double for Joplin in the bottom of the eighth. The second baseman went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and batted in 2.

"I was a little disappointed," said Candiac manager Jim Fernández. "We could've and should've scored more runs."

Joplin's record now stands at 73-74, placing them third in the TMLAAA Joe Torre Division.
