| Phantoms Edge Flash, 4-3 | The Coronado Phantoms had to overcome a big game from Fairfield designated hitter Oscar Ortega to leave Durham Bulls Athletic Park with a 4-3 victory. Ortega belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Eric Sauer picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Eduardo Fuentez was tagged with the loss. Scott Bernard earned his 1st save in 1 chances.
Had Shumei Heida not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Heida hit a run-scoring triple. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Phantoms.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Heida told the Coronado Today.
With the victory, the Phantoms record now stands at 55-83.
