| Caterpillars Score Late, Top Argonauts, 2-1 | Astoria got a terrific performance from pitcher Mauro Rodríguez, but it wasn't enough to beat the Peoria Caterpillars. Peoria won the Golden Fleece Park contest, 2-1. Rodríguez was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Peoria reliever Jorge Olivo picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Mauro Rodríguez shouldered the loss. Kirk Winman got the save, his 4th in 6 chances.
Had Jack Zapor not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Zapor hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Caterpillars.
"I felt good up there," said Zapor. "I saw the ball well."
Today's win puts Peoria at 55-72, while Astoria falls to 51-76.
