| Death Stars Topple Redbirds with Late Rally | Detroit and Candiac duked it out at Municipal Stadium and the Death Stars came out victorious.
The Detroit Death Stars grabbed a 6-4 win over the Candiac Redbirds at Municipal Stadium. Detroit first baseman Chris Whatley was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 to earn player of the game honors. Detroit reliever Yukihiro Nakamoto was the winner. His record is now 3-1. Jason Loer took the loss. Ben Bower earned his 17th save in 21 chances.
Had Tim Beeman not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Beeman hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Death Stars.
"It feels good to get this one," Whatley told the Detroit Daily News.
Candiac's current losing streak is now 4 games.
