The Paczkis got a fine performance from left fielder Frank Pena, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-2 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The winner was Rick Byrnes, who threw 94 pitches over 7 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 7 hits. John Knight notched his 20th save in 23 chances.
The tide might have turned with no one out in the top of the fifth, had not Rick Byrnes made a big pitch. With the bases loaded and the Canadians trailing 6-0, he retired Vinnie Errichiello, who flied out.
