| Barker, Fireballs Too Much for Argonauts | The Joplin Fireballs relied on the hitting of left fielder Art Barker to stop the Astoria Argonauts, 9-7. For the game, Barker went 3-4 with a home run, a triple, and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. The Fireballs saw their win-loss record go to 30-40. At the same time, the Argonauts fell to 26-46.
Had Benjamin Donahoo not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Donahoo hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Fireballs.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Joplin manager Nobuharu Chikafuji.
