| Big Day by Fernandez Ignites Phantoms Win | The Coronado Phantoms beat the Birmingham Bears, 9-6, at Edgbaston. The Phantoms got a fine performance from center fielder Danny Fernandez, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Coronado reliever Joe Starring picked up the win, upping his record to 6-6. Daniel Farley was saddled with the loss. Chris Elwell was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 2 save opportunities.
The Phantoms got a big at-bat from left fielder Roland Philippe. For the game, Philippe went 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the ninth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Coronado a 9-6 lead.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Philippe.
The last-place Phantoms improved to 27-43.
