| Fireballs Turn Back Billings, 5-4 | Alex Rodriguez had a good game, but he could not keep the Billings Mustangs from falling, 5-4, to the Joplin Fireballs at The Firepit. The Billings catcher was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 in the loss. Joplin reliever Valentim Carrapa picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Mark Sparling was saddled with the loss. The 4th-place Fireballs improved to 29-38.
The Fireballs got a big at-bat from right fielder Jamie Thompson. For the game, Thompson went 2-4 with a double. In the bottom of the seventh, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 52nd hit of the season gave Joplin a 5-4 lead.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Thompson.
