| Bears Drop Phantoms with Late Score | Fans who gathered at Edgbaston saw a good contest between the Birmingham Bears and Coronado Phantoms.
Birmingham first baseman Jim McNutt made his presence felt in the 5-3 Bears triumph over the Coronado Phantoms. McNutt was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Marcos Colón got credit for the win, improving to 2-4. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. Nobuhiko Newton converted his 2nd save in 4 tries.
McNutt had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-1 fastball from Adam Sullivan, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Bears a 5-3 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for McNutt.
McNutt attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
Coronado's current losing streak is now 4 games.
