| Bears Squelch Baristas Offense in Shutout Win | The Birmingham Bears got a good effort from starter Tim Gary in defeating the Silver Lake Baristas at Ashton Gate. The final score was 5-0. Gary, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. The first-place Baristas have dropped 5 straight games.
It could have been a different outcome for Birmingham, had it not been for Harlan Sanderson, the 27-year old shortstop . Sanderson contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Birmingham up, 1-0.
In postgame comments to the Birmingham Daily, Sanderson said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
