| Fireballs Win at Birmingham, 8-3 | The Joplin Fireballs defeated the Birmingham Bears, 8-3, in Darryl Kile League action at Edgbaston, with Joplin right fielder Art Barker named player of the game. Bobby Lloyd picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 6 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 2-4. The Fireballs now have a mark of 20-29.
Abraham Merez aided the Joplin cause with a 3-run home run in the top of the first. For the game, the catcher was 1-5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
