| Bears Get One-Run Win at Bowling Green | Fans who gathered at Top of the Hill saw a good contest between the Birmingham Bears and Bowling Green Racers.
The Bowling Green Racers got a superb performance from second baseman Danny Solis. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Birmingham. The Bears won the game, 6-5. In spite of the loss, Solis was named the player of the game. He went 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Birmingham reliever Jim Clemons picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Masamichi Takeda shouldered the loss.
Joe Gravel aided the Birmingham cause with a 2-run double in the top of the fourth. For the game, the designated hitter went 1 for 5 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"Let's just say I'm happy we won," said Gravel. "There are a lot of people in the clubhouse who like to whine too much when we lose."
Birmingham occupies 4th place in the Nick Adenhart League Tony La Russa Division at 21-23.
