Pacheco Sharp, Whitewashes Bumblebees

The Pasadena Bumblebees were almost helpless today in their 10-0 loss to the Joplin Fireballs and hurler Bernardino Pacheco. Pacheco kept the Bumblebees confused all game, spinning a 2-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Pacheco," Pasadena manager Wilfred Brooks said in his postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 29-year-old right-hander had 3 walks and 7 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Pacheco said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."

Presently Pacheco has a 4-2 mark in 7 starts with a 3.62 ERA. He has given up 40 hits in 49.2 innings, struck out 40 and issued 15 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .220 batting average against him.
