| Tight Tilt Goes to Death Stars, 3-2 | Detroit Death Stars starter Perry Groenendijk turned in a top-notch performance against the Joplin Fireballs at The Firepit. The result was a win for the Death Stars, 3-2. Groenendijk, now 3-4, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. The Death Stars bumped their record to 22-16 with this latest triumph.
Detroit needed the clutch hitting of Willis Ortiz to notch the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Death Stars on top, 3-2. For the game, Ortiz had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"Good win," said Ortiz. "Maybe some of the whiners in the clubhouse will pipe down for a little while now."
