| Caterpillars Subdue Astoria, 5-3 | The Peoria Caterpillars defeated the Astoria Argonauts, 5-3, in Darryl Kile League action at Golden Fleece Park, with Peoria pitcher Rich Virola named player of the game. Virola, now 3-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Kirk Winman, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Augusto Cavazos aided the Peoria cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth. For the game, the third baseman went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Cavazos.
With the win over Astoria, the Caterpillars improved to 18-21.
