Redbirds Turn Back Pasadena, 3-1

Pasadena pitcher Gilberto Vega gave the Redbirds all they could handle, but in the end, Candiac left Municipal Stadium with a 3-1 win. Vega allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings. Hulusi Mumcu picked up the save for Candiac, his 4th of the year. The win puts the Redbirds at 16-19, while the Bumblebees drop to 20-16.

The Redbirds got a big at-bat from right fielder Roberto Ayala. For the game, Ayala went 1 for 4 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 10th home run of the season gave Candiac a 2-1 lead.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Ayala said.
