| Islanders Subdue Rubber City, 4-3 | The Hawaii Islanders defeated the Rubber City Rhinos, 4-3, in Roberto Clemente League action at Aloha Stadium. Oscar Costales received player of the game honors. The 8-year veteran was 3-4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Hawaii reliever Norogumi Yokoyama was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Goro Ota took the loss for Rubber City. Amaui Mahi'ai earned the save, his 6th.
Doug Sanders helped out the Hawaii cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the right fielder drove in one run.
"This was a good win," said Costales.
Even with the win, it has been a disastrous start to the year for the Islanders, who once had aspirations of returning to the playoffs but now find themselves mired in last place at 7-13.
