| Bombers Slip Past Cairo, 5-4 | Despite a great performance by Cairo first baseman George Guinn, the Bronx Bombers defeated the Sphinx by the score of 5-4 at Bronx Ballpark. Guinn was 4 for 5 with a triple and 3 singles. He scored 2 times. Bronx reliever Zong-yuan Sang was the winner. His record is now 3-1. Kiyohira Yokoyama took the loss. Charlie Wife got credit for the save for Bronx. It was his 9th of the year.
Had Jorge Barrera not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Barrera hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Bombers.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Barrera said.
The Bombers, now 19-9, have been on a roll in the early going.
