| Cacti Come Up Short at Birmingham | The Albuquerque Cacti and Birmingham Bears provided some drama at Edgbaston.
The Birmingham Bears faced a tough opponent in Albuquerque pitcher Fernando Buzo, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Edgbaston by a final score of 2-1. Buzo went 5.2 innings and allowed no earned runs. Cory Hoffman finished the game for Birmingham and earned his 8th save.
Had Harlan Sanderson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Sanderson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Bears.
Sanderson attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
Birmingham is now 15-8.
