| Redbirds Rally to Eke Out Win | Despite a fine performance by right fielder Jamie Thompson, the Joplin Fireballs suffered a 7-6 loss to the Candiac Redbirds. Thompson hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Every game is important, even these early ones, if the Redbirds hope to make a postseason run.
The Redbirds got a big at-bat from right fielder Roberto Ayala. For the game, Ayala went 1-4 with 2 walks, while scoring 2 times. In the bottom of the 11th, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 5th hit of the season gave Candiac a 7-6 lead.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Ayala. "I like it."
