| Pioneers Turn Back Maple, 3-1 | The Vancouver Pioneers defeated the Maple Marauders, 3-1, in Thurman Munson League action at "The Fort" at B.C. Place, with Vancouver pitcher Dan Miscavage named player of the game. Nobutoshi Katayama got the save, his 7th in 9 chances. After today's action, Vancouver sits at 59-88, while Maple falls to 72-77.
The game was on the line with two out in the top of the ninth inning, but Nobutoshi Katayama didn't flinch. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and Maple trailing 3-1, Katayama retired Ryan Agee to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Katayama, with a wink.
