| Beavers Need Extras to Top Islanders | The Hawaii Islanders got a superb performance from pitcher David Lidstone. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Portland. The Beavers won the game, 4-3. In spite of the loss, Lidstone was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. The Beavers bumped their record to 91-55 with this latest triumph.
The Beavers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Umito Kono. For the game, Kono was 3-6 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs. In the top of the 11th, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 113rd hit of the season gave Portland a 4-3 lead.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Kono said.
