| Tornadoes Take Nail-Biter Over Stogies | Havana got a terrific performance from pitcher Jimmy Hunter, but it wasn't enough to beat the Kansas City Tornadoes. Kansas City won the Debris Field contest, 2-1. Hunter was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball. The Tornadoes own a robust 99-44 mark.
The Tornadoes got a big at-bat from designated hitter Jake Sandlin. For the game, Sandlin was 1 for 4. In the bottom of the tenth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 42nd hit of the season gave Kansas City a 2-1 lead.
"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Fernando Vargas, the Kansas City manager.
